You can travel to El Salvador for tourism or business for up to 180 days without a visa.

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the day you arrive.

Avoid walking alone or on remote trails and take extra care in more deprived or less touristy areas.

Use ATMs only in shopping centres or well-lit areas and avoid withdrawing large amounts of money.

Do not wear expensive jewellery and keep valuables, including your passport, in a hotel safe if possible.

Only use reputable radio-dispatched or pre-booked taxis and avoid unofficial taxis to reduce risk.

Swimming on the Pacific coast can be dangerous due to strong undertows, so avoid isolated beaches, especially after drinking alcohol.

Always carry a copy of the photo page of your passport as ID, as police may detain you if they suspect gang membership.
