Entry requirements for Guam
You must have either a valid ESTA or a US visa before you travel, and you must apply for the correct one based on your eligibility.
Your passport must be valid for the entire length of your planned stay in the United States.
If you are travelling under the Visa Waiver Program with an ESTA, your maximum stay is typically 90 days, and overstaying can lead to detention and future bans.
You cannot use an ESTA if you have travelled to countries like Cuba, Iran, or Syria since specified dates, or if you have certain criminal records or previous US immigration issues.
Even with a valid ESTA or visa, you can be refused entry if US authorities believe you plan to overstay or have provided incomplete information.
Good to know:
You may be denied entry or have your electronic devices inspected if officials believe you have provided inaccurate information or intend to overstay.
Children under 18 travelling alone or with only one parent should carry a notarised letter of consent, preferably in English, from the absent parent(s).
Safety in Guam
Guam is tourist-friendly but has some key cultural and legal rules:
Always carry your passport with you to show you have permission to be in the US.
Do not leave passports or valuables in rental cars, especially in the boot, as gangs may target tourist vehicles.
The legal age for buying and drinking alcohol across the entire United States is 21.
Illegal drugs, including cannabis, carry severe penalties including long jail sentences and heavy fines for possession, use, or smuggling.
When driving, check if the specific state you are visiting requires you to have an International Driving Permit in addition to your UK photocard licence.
Bonus tips:
Be aware of your surroundings in crowded places, at transport hubs, and at large events due to the general threat of terrorism.
If you are hiring a car, check the company's requirements as they often demand a higher minimum age, more driving experience, and an International Driving Permit.

No vaccinations required
Consult your doctor or a travel clinic well in advance of your trip to discuss necessary vaccinations and health precautions. Dengue fever can occur. Protect yourself from mosquito bites by using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and trousers, and staying in accommodations with air conditioning or mosquito nets. Tap water is generally considered safe to drink, but bottled water is readily available and may be preferred. Food safety standards are generally high.
Cards & payments
Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in Guam, especially in hotels, restaurants, and larger establishments popular with tourists. However, smaller businesses may prefer cash.
