Entry requirements for Jordan
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after your arrival date.
You must purchase a visa; a single-entry visit visa is available on arrival at airports and one land crossing for 40 JOD.
A Jordan Pass, costing 70 to 80 JOD, includes your visa fee and provides discounted tourist site entry if you stay at least 3 nights.
If you plan to visit Israel or Palestine and re-enter Jordan, you should get a multiple-entry visa before travelling.
You can extend your Jordan visit visa online for up to 6 months.
Good to know:
If you are staying in Jordan for more than 30 days, you must take a HIV test and get a health certificate costing 20 JOD.
At land border crossings, you must pay a departure tax of 10 Jordanian dinars in cash.
Safety in Jordan
Jordan is tourist-friendly but has some key cultural and legal rules:
Stay aware of your surroundings at all times as there is a threat of terrorist attacks in places like hotels, shopping malls, and tourist sites.
Be alert to pickpocketing, bag-snatching, and theft from cars, and keep your money, passport, and valuables secure.
Do not drink alcohol on the street as it is illegal; alcohol is permitted in bars, clubs, hotels, and private homes.
You must carry ID like a passport or driving licence with you at all times to show at police checkpoints.
If you must use a taxi, ask your hotel for a reliable driver, use ride-hailing apps like Uber, and avoid riding in the front seat, especially when alone.

It is socially unacceptable for unmarried foreign couples to live together, and some landlords may ask for a marriage certificate.
Do not attempt to encourage someone to convert to Christianity as it is illegal and can lead to a prison sentence or fine.

Health in Jordan
Make sure you have comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical expenses, including repatriation. Check that your policy covers all activities you plan to do. Although GHIC/EHIC is useful in Europe, it is not applicable in Jordan.
No vaccinations required
Consult your doctor or a travel clinic well in advance of your trip to discuss necessary vaccinations and health precautions. Drink bottled water and be mindful of food hygiene. Avoid mosquito bites by using insect repellent and wearing long sleeves and trousers, especially at dawn and dusk. Medical facilities are available in major cities, but may be limited in rural areas.

Since 8 July, Iran has carried out strikes and retaliatory attacks against US military and civilian infrastructure in locations across the region, including Jordan.
The US-Iran memorandum of understanding (MOU) was announced on 17 June.
There is a risk of more attacks and unforeseen escalation in the region.
