Entry requirements for Luxembourg
You can visit Luxembourg without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period as a tourist.
Your passport's date of issue must be less than 10 years old from your arrival date, and its expiry date must be at least 3 months after you plan to leave the Schengen area.
When entering, you may need to show proof of accommodation, travel insurance, a return ticket, and enough money for your stay.
The new Entry/Exit System (EES) means you may need to register your fingerprints and photo at the border, which can take extra time.
If you stay over 90 days in a 180-day period, you risk being banned from Schengen countries for up to 3 years, so you need a different visa or permit.
Good to know:
You cannot bring meat, milk, or products containing them into Luxembourg, with few exceptions like baby food.
You must declare cash or travellers cheques worth 10,000 euros or more when you enter or leave Luxembourg.
Safety in Luxembourg
Luxembourg is tourist-friendly but has some key cultural and legal rules:
Pickpockets operate on buses and in train stations, especially at Gare de Luxembourg station.
Be aware that hotel lobbies in the Findel area are reported hotspots for theft and pickpocketing.
Do not keep your passport, credit cards, and other valuables all in the same place.
The minimum legal drinking age is 16, but being drunk and disorderly in public can lead to arrest and a heavy fine.
You can use a UK photocard driving licence to drive in Luxembourg for one year.
Bonus tips:
If you have had your driving licence for less than 2 years, the legal blood alcohol limit for driving is 0.02%.
Official taxis display a price list, so check the rate per kilometre before getting in as some may charge inflated prices.
