Mozambique Beach Holidays

You can travel without a visa for up to 30 days for tourism but must apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation at least 48 hours before departure.

Your passport must have an expiry date at least 6 months after the date you arrive.

You need at least 2 blank passport pages for entry stamps.

On arrival, you must show a written invitation from your host or a confirmed accommodation reservation, and a return or onward air ticket.

You must have a certificate to prove you’ve had a yellow fever vaccination if you’re coming from a country listed as a transmission risk.

If entering Mozambique with a child under 18, you will need to present an unabridged birth certificate listing both parents.

You must declare 10,000 Mozambican meticais or more in cash, and foreign cash or travellers cheques worth 5,000 US dollars or more.

Always carry your passport with you as police patrols and checkpoints are common and will not accept copies.

Be aware that drinking alcohol on public beaches is illegal.

Street crime involving knives and firearms is common in Maputo and is increasing in other cities and tourist destinations.

Carjackings are a risk, so keep your car doors locked and windows closed while driving, and avoid driving alone at night.

Credit cards are increasingly accepted in larger cities, but you should tell your bank before using your card in Mozambique.

If a police officer threatens you or asks for a bribe, report this to the British High Commission for awareness.

When driving, you must always carry 2 reflective triangles in your vehicle and wear a reflective vest when repairing, loading or unloading it to avoid an on-the-spot fine.
