Safety in Samoa
Samoa is tourist-friendly but has some key cultural and legal rules:
Do not leave your belongings unattended and use hotel safes for passports and valuables.
Dress modestly in towns and villages as swimwear elsewhere is likely to receive negative attention.
Drinking alcohol in public is illegal except at bars or restaurants and the legal drinking age is 21.
Take local advice before swimming or surfing due to powerful currents and hazardous reef breaks.
You must buy a temporary driving permit with your UK licence to drive, valid for up to 90 days a year.
Bonus tips:
Many UK mobile phones may not work, so you may need to buy and register a local SIM card.
Keep your distance from stray dogs, which are common and can become aggressive.
