Entry requirements for Ukraine

British citizens do not need a visa for visits of up to 90 days within any 180-day period, a rule valid until 30 January 2027.

Your passport must be valid for the proposed duration of your stay if you are entering without a visa.

At the border, you must be prepared to complete an immigration card and scan your fingerprints if requested.

You must have evidence of sufficient funds, which can be shown with cash, bank cards, accommodation bookings, tourist vouchers, a sponsor's letter, or return tickets.

If you overstay the 90-day allowance, you will be fined and may not be able to return to Ukraine for 90 days after leaving.

Good to know:

You must declare any items that may be prohibited or subject to tax or duty, including antiques.

Non-residents can bring a vehicle for personal use into Ukraine for up to one year, provided it is not used commercially, dismantled, sold, rented, or used to travel through the country.

Safety in Ukraine

Ukraine is tourist-friendly but has some key cultural and legal rules:

Always carry your passport with you as identification for police checks.

Never leave drinks or food unattended to avoid spiking.

Be alert to credit card cloning and keep your card in sight during all transactions.

Avoid smoking or drinking alcohol in public places as it is illegal.

Only use official taxis that display the company's name and phone number.

Bonus tips:

Make sure you have enough local cash as ATMs may not be refilled or work during power cuts.

Do not take photographs near government or military establishments.

Health in Ukraine

Make sure you have comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical expenses, including emergency evacuation. A Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) or European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) may not be valid in Ukraine, so travel insurance is essential.

No vaccinations required

Consult your doctor or a travel clinic well in advance of your trip to discuss necessary vaccinations and health precautions. Ensure you have adequate travel insurance that covers medical emergencies.

Cards & payments

Card payments are becoming increasingly common, especially in larger cities, hotels, and restaurants, but cash is still widely used, particularly in smaller establishments and markets.
