You must have a visa to visit Zimbabwe and most visitors get their visa on arrival, which is usually granted for 30 days.

To enter Zimbabwe, your passport must have an 'expiry date' at least 6 months after your arrival date and 3 blank pages.

Take enough US dollars with you in small notes to pay for your visa on arrival.

It is possible to apply for an e-visa before you travel, with options for single or double entry visas.

You can also use the KAZA Univisa, valid for 30 days for travel between Zimbabwe and Zambia and for day trips into Botswana, available at certain airports and land borders for 50 US dollars.

Declare cash or travellers cheques if the value is 10,000 US dollars or more, and you cannot leave Zimbabwe with cash worth more than 2,000 US dollars.

You must have a certificate to prove you've had a yellow fever vaccination if you're coming from a country listed as a transmission risk.

Be vigilant against mugging, pickpocketing and bag-snatching in city centres, especially after dark.

Carry a copy of your passport's photo page and visa at all times, leaving the original in a safe place.

Do not exchange foreign currency anywhere other than at officially licensed dealers such as banks or bureaux de change.

Keep vehicle doors locked and windows closed to protect against smash-and-grab robberies, especially on common routes.

Avoid taking photographs of government offices, airports, military areas, police or demonstrations without permission.

It is illegal to wear any form of clothing made from camouflage material.

Be careful when showing affection in public as same-sex relations are illegal and society remains conservative.
